Newfoundland events to mark Canadian navy centennial in 2010
Although Newfoundland wasn't part of Canada until 1949, the Canadian navy was a familiar force here during the two world wars. During the Second War it patrolled the island's coast and escorted convoys across the Atlantic with St. John's as an important port of call. The Crow's Nest Officers Club in the city was founded then and continues actively today, along with the local navy presence at HMCS Cabot.
This year, the Canadian navy marks its 100th anniversary. Some of the events planned in this province are listed here.
